KFC (the company formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken to those of us who can remember when Colonel Sanders was a real person and not a break dancing cartoon) is offerin a limited time coupon in order to promote their latest offering – Grilled Chicken!
KFC has been struggling to find ways to appeal to folks who are trying to be healthy for a long time. They even had a short-lived campaign in which they actually tried to promote fried chicken as health food. Actually offering up some low-calorie grilled chicken, however, is a great big step in the right direction in my eyes.
If you’re careful.
See, there’s still all those delicious sides that KFC offers. The coupon in question for this promotion is good for two pieces of grilled chicken, two sides, and a biscuit. Let’s say you get a breast and a thigh (which would be my preference, but be warned that the coupon specifically states that it is “managers choice). The two pieces of chicken alone would total up 184 calories, 13 grams of fat, 0 grams of carbohydrates, and 0 grams of fiber (5 Weight Watchers POINTS). Not too bad for a lunch. Add on the biscuit, however, and you’ve already got another 180 calories, 8 grams of fat, 23 carbs, and 1 gram of fiber (4 Weight Watchers POINTS). Now you’ve got to pick two sides, and this is where you could really fall into bad calorie territory. My suggestion would be to go with the Green Beans (25 calories, 0 fat, 2 fiber, 5 carbs, 0 WW POINTS) and Corn on the Cob (70 calories, 5 fat, 2 fiber, 2 carbs, 1 WW POINT). Definitely avoid the Potato Wedges (260 calories, 13 fat, 3 fiber, 33 carbs, 6 WW POINTS)!
This is a limited time offer, so pop on over to the KFC site and download the coupon before 11:59 PM EST today (May 6th, 2009).
