Ok, so I just went over to the Dream Con web site to see if there was anything up about Dream Con ’05 yet. What I was greeted with was a bit of a shock.
Dear DreamCon attendees and supporters,
First, let me say ‘thank you’ to all of you who attended and supported DreamCon 2004 and those who have been looking forward to our next event.
It is with great regret that we must inform you that DreamCon ’05 will not occur as planned this summer. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain the necessary pre-event funding in sufficient time. We hope to be able to acquire enough funding to merely postpone DreamCon ’05 until Oct/Nov. We don’t anticipate a decision on that for another three months, though. Even if there is no event in 2005, we hope to be able to return in Summer 2006.
As things are so indeterminate right now, we have attempted to contact all those who pre-registered and offer them a refund, pending the determination of a new date. However, we had some difficulties with some of the handwriting on the registration forms; so, if you pre-registered and have not been contacted, yet, please e-mail us at ron@dreamcon.net with your information.
Thank you again for your support, and my sincerest apologies for the situation.
Ron Methvin
Chief Organizer, DreamCon
Ummm…What?
Pre-registration was happening? That would have been nice to KNOW. You don’t think that, maybe, the reason that they didn’t get enough capital to secure the event was because they didn’t even tell anyone that they were planning one, do you??? I mean, I could be an aberration, but I’d have purchased passes for netgoth and myself months ago if they were available, but despite repeated requests I couldn’t even get anyone to say whether or not they were definitely planning on doing it again!
This sucks. This sucks big donkey balls. I was really looking forward to having an excuse to go up to Jacksonville again this Summer and not have to work to get most of our friends there in one place.
Feh. Feh. Feh.
In other news, the new computer is up and running and it is a beautiful thing. I’ve had a few hiccups and learning curves while getting it set up, but all in all it’s been smooth sailing. The biggest loss I’ve had was Eudora. Somehow or other it got messed up when transferring my data from one computer to the other and I cannot reply to any of the emails I receive. This continued even after uninstalling and reinstalling without putting in any of my old data. I’m sure it’s got something to do with a registry setting now, but after fighting with it for a few hours I’m not going to bother trying to find out. I’ve switched over to Thunderbird, and while I do not like the interface at all I am mightily impressed with the product as a whole. The junk filter alone (a feature you only get if you pay for a full version of Eudora) makes it worth using. I think I’ve devised a way to get my old emails into Thunderbird as well. It seemed to choke when trying to import them all at once, so I’m going to selectively break the folders down and try doing it that way.
We’ll see. If worse comes to worse I’ll just leave Eudora on my machine and open it only to check archived emails if I need to.
But yeah, the games are absolutely smoking. Last night I got a few very brief pauses when I was in really populated areas of the game (near train stations, under Atlas, etc…) but other than that it was completely smooth sailing. Same thing with World of Warcraft the night before. I am LOVING it.
Now I just have to get my old computer ready to give to Mom.
Ah well, back to work.
