Mr. Yuk Says "Liver Damage is Bad!"

On Friday, May 1st, the Food and Drug Administration released a statement advising the public to discontinue the use of the popular weight loss supplement Hydroxycut immediately.  According to the statement there are at least three 23 cases of Hydroxycut users suffering serious liver damage and at least one death back in 2007.

What’s particularly alarming about this announcement is that the people who were injured were taking Hydroxycut in the regular dose as recommended from the manufacturer.

The manufacturer of Hydroxycut, Health Sciences, Inc., is participating fully with the FDA on this voluntary recall and has replaced the Hydroxycut home page with information on the recall and advice on how refunds can be obtained.  The list of products in the recall includes :

  • Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
  • Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
  • Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules
  • Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules
  • Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
  • Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
  • Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
  • Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
  • Hydroxycut 24
  • Hydroxycut Carb Control
  • Hydroxycut Natural

If you’re a current user of Hydroxycut and have experienced any of the symptoms listed in the warning (brown urine, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, stomach pain, itching and light-colored stools) it might be a good idea to consult a physician.  If you’re looking for an alternative to Hydroxycut we’d suggest…exercising more!  Nothing replaces good old-fashioned exercise when it comes to burning fat and increasing energy levels, and you get that added benefit of no liver damage.  Always a plus in our book!

  1. “If you’re looking for an alternative to Hydroxycut we’d suggest…exercising more!”

This has been my argument for years. I don’t have a problem with supplements, but there is no magic weight loss drug. My ex husband took Phen-Phen and I argued with him then that it couldn’t be healthy. The bizarre thing is that some people, even though they KNOW that it is damaging them, are going to continue to take it for as long as they can. My ex husband says that even though he knows the risks of Phen-Phen, if it were available today, he would take it.

He’s willing to permanently damage his body, but he’s not willing to work out. I just don’t understand!

  2. I’m a busy person. I sometimes do not have the hours in a day to get enough exercise . . if there was a shortcut that actually worked, I’d be all for taking it.

    My $.02 worth.
