I feel like I need to put a disclaimer out before I write this particular post, and so I shall.
Despite appearances to the contrary this site has not been taken over by the Nintendo Fanboy network.
What sparks me to state that before continuing is that I’m about to heap praise on Nintendo yet again for supporting video games that promote health and fitness. This time, however, they’ve done something that I personally wouldn’t have seen coming. This new contender in the “getting gamers healthy” game is for the Nintendo DS.
Personal Trainer : Walking is the latest release in Nintendo’s Touch Generation series of games for the Nintendo DS. The series includes games like Brain Age, Wii Music, and Personal Trainer : Math and is focused on helping “people from all walks of life connect with each other through engaging and fulfilling interactive experiences.” Personal Trainer : Walking fulfills that goal by helping you (and a friend) track how much activity you are getting on a daily basis.
The game comes with two Activity Meters – enchanced pedometers that can connect wirelessly to the Nintendo DS to transmit your step records. The Activity Meters don’t just track the number of steps you have taken, though. It will also record when you took those steps, allowing you to track what your levels of activity are during the course of any given day. Personal Trainer : Walking uses this information to help you determine your “life rhythym” patterns and see plot out ways to improve your overall fitness. Personal Trainer : Walking is also the first Nintendo DS game to allow you to import your Mii from the Nintendo Wii as your personal avatar.
Although it doesn’t come with the added benefit of free stuff like the Virgin Healthmiles program, Personal Trainer : Walking is yet another example of how Nintendo is dedicated to not only entertaining us but actually delivering games that have the potential to improve our lives. Here at ShrinkGeek that’s a mission we can totally get behind.

Before this one, Nintendo released “My Weight Loss Trainer” which dealt with food, exercise and teaching good habits. I haven’t been able to try this one but own the first one. I am looking forward to try it.
I’m not familiar with that one. What do you think of it?

So do you need to have your DS on and with you all the time or does the activity monitor store the information and sync with the DS once it’s turned on?
This and EA Active are high on my list of ‘games’ to purchase but I’m trying to find out more data about them…
The activity monitor stores the information and you sync it at your convenience. You get two of them so two people can use the program on the same DS and they will store step information for 7 days.
oh that’s just lovely, I think I know what my next DS purchase will be 🙂
You should totally click one of those convenient links in the post to get it. 🙂
