Located in the mini-mall that makes up the lower floor of the Westin Hotel right across the street from the Indianapolis Convention Center, Subway is a fantastic way to get a lower calorie meal when you’re on the move between games during the show. Yes, it is a chain and no, it doesn’t say anything unique about Indiana. What it does offer you, however, is a chance to have a meal or two that requires no guesswork or fretting on your part. We here at ShrinkGeek all have our “standard” sandwich we get when we go to Subway. We know what to order, what to put on it, and (most importantly) how many calories it is before we even walk in the door. There’s a lot to be said for that, and anyone who is making a serious effort to control their weight likely could tell you the same thing. If you don’t already know what “your” sandwich is, though, Subway makes it pretty easy to pick out the better choices by segregating the “healthier” choices to a separate section of their menu board. Just remember that the calorie and fat counts on that board do not include cheese or mayo.
While we’re on the subject of mayonnaise at Subway…I’ve heard from more than one Subway employee that there isn’t any difference between their “Light” and “Regular” mayonnaise. They say it’s all the “light” variety and that they just put it into two different dispenser bottles so that people don’t turn their nose up at the lower calorie option. I don’t know for sure if that is true or not, but just to be safe if I see they have both I always ask for the “light” version. If, however, you don’t see a “light” bottle you can, if what I have been told is true, feel comfortable ordering the regular version if you can’t stand a sandwich without mayonnaise on it.
