Official release date for EA SPORTS Active expansion announced

EA Sports ActiveEA SPORTS announced today that the first expansion to their hit fitness game EA SPORTS Active will be released in North America on November 17th, 2007 (just in time for the holiday season).

As much as I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this particular little expansion I have to admit that the name leaves a lot to be desired.  When I first wrote about the “tropical” theme of the expansion I figured it would be something like EA SPORTS Active: Fitness In Paradise! or something along those lines.  Apparently my marketing mojo isn’t as good as I thought it was because the name for the latest addition to this franchise is a descriptive but less-than-imaginative EA SPORTS Active More Workouts.

Obvious and unexciting name aside, this expansion promises a lot of new features that are sorely missing in EA SPORTS Active.  Instead of telling you that you need to do warm up and cool down exercises, the program will now simply take you through them. Additionally, they are also adding in a series of core exercises which are virtually non-existent in the original game.  As if that weren’t enough, they’re also adding in a comprehensive six week challenge in which you can choose what area you would like to focus on improving. That’s going to be a huge improvement for those who just want to focus some workout love on their love handles.

According to EA SPORTS the expansion will be available as a stand-alone purchase or bundled with the original EA SPORTS Active.  As of this time no pricing information is available, but we have confirmed that it will be a physical expansion and not a download from Nintendo.
