Wii Sports Resort goes on tour

arc_noa_adAs part of a media campaign to celebrate the release of the sequel to their popular Wii Sports game, Nintendo announced on Thursday they would be touring around the country with a portable island straight out of Wii Sports Resort.

Starting with a huge display in the middle of Times Square, the portable islands will have plenty of fruity (but non-alcoholic beverages), a steel drum band, a reflecting pool and a lounge area.  Oh, yeah…You’ll also be able to try out Wii Sports Resort!

Wii Sports Resort is the newest game from Nintendo to utilize their new Wii MotionPlus accessory.  The accessory clips on to the bottom of the Wii Remote and greatly increases the sensitivity of the motion detectors in the device.  Nintendo claims this will bring some much needed precision to games that are specifically designed for it.  Wii Sports Resort has 12 such games bundled with it, including archery, basketball, bowling, golf, table tennis, Swordplay, Air Sports, canoeing, cycling, Frisbee ®, Power Cruising and wakeboarding.

While I suppose this doesn’t technically fall into the “fitness game” category games like Wii Sports Resort will definitely get the blood pumping if you play them long enough.  The original game Wii Sports has been used to help treat Parkinson’s Disease in the past, and with improved motion detection I can only imagine we’ll see similar uses for Wii Sports Resort.

Not to mention the fact that it just looks fun.

  1. That looks like a lot of fun. I think the swordplay would be awesome. Do you know what power cruising is? I’m envisioning some heavy duty cruise ship action, but I’m thinking I’m wrong.
