Good times….
Nothing say “Today is gonna be AWESOME” like waking up to find dried cat puke on your office chair first thing in the morning. No idea how long it actually sat there, but it was old enough that I had to get out the 409 and scrub to get it all off.
Bill is still improving. I didn’t hear anything from Jody about him yesterday, but Alex talked to her and she gave him the whole lowdown. She told him about how it was related to his diabetes and why it was so important that he take care of himself in that regard. I can only assume that means he’s doing well enough that she’s not afraid Alex is going to freak out over him dying and it being diabetes related. Speaking of diabetes, Canadian scientists have cured it in mice. Like, overnight even.
In the “WTF??” department, Scott Kurtz of PVP online started a storyline today that smacks a bit too much like Ctrl+Alt+Del‘s Winter-Een-Mas. Right down to wearing a controller as decoration. I’m hoping this is some kind of self-referential dig, especially considering that the characters in PVP tend to break the fourth wall often in that regard. If not…I dunno. I guess I’ll just be really disappointed. Kurtz gets a lot of shit from the internet community, but he’s always seemed like he was a genuinely good guy to me. I’d hate to think he was starting to show some of the “big man in comics” arrogance his detractors accuse him of, and ripping off ideas from other comics would definitely fall into that category.
Yesterday was a big ball of suck at work, but in retrospect it was surprisingly entertaining. Frustrating as hell, sure, but it made the first half of the day fly by. Got off a little early so I could swing by Omaha Steaks and cash in the $100 gift certificate my Mom gave us for Christmas. Picked up a pretty standard package that included some steaks, burgers, hot dogs, pork chops, chicken breasts, and potatoes au gratin, then added on a bag of Tortilla Crusted Tilapia. We got one of those the last time Mom gave us a gift certificate, and they were damned tasty. All in all, pretty good stuff from that place, but considering the distance I have to go to get there and the fact that it’s “gourmet” prices it’s not some place I’d start shopping regularly.
But $100 of free meats is $100 of free meats, ya know?
Locally, it’s time once again for me to put on my shilling hat. Jobsite is getting ready to open All The Great Books (Abridged). Yep, the “Bad Boys” of abridgment are back again, having tackled Shakespeare, The Bible, and American History they are now moving on to books. Amazingly enough, this might actually mean they’ve taken some time to read one or two. Who’d have thought it, huh? They must have found some way to completely eliminate sleep from their lives. In any case, I have yet to leave an “Abridged” without being completely sore from laughing so hard, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with for this one. These guys give a whole new twist to the Abridged plays, making each one their own. Even if you’ve seen this play before, the Jobsite crew promises to give you a truly unique (and, most certainly, a much funnier) experience.
Get yer asses out there and buy tickets before the monkeys start flinging poo, damnit!

Update
billified was intubated this morning around 4 AM. Despite the fact that he was wearing an breathing mask and his oxygen levels were returning to normal, he was still struggling to breathe – and apparently becoming quite irritated with everyone and everything as a result (not that I can blame him….being stuck full of tubes and having a hard time breathing would make anyone cranky). They sedated him and inserted the breathing tube, and he’s been unconscious ever since. While they haven’t said he’s completely in the clear yet, they have stopped saying he was still at risk of dying. So things are looking up.
Thanks for all the good thoughts. Keep ’em coming. I’ve got a feeling he’s got a bumpy road ahead of him.
Mojo, white lite, etc…
A’s step father billified was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Bayfront Medical Center a few hours ago. Apparently his body is having some kind of diabetes related shutdown. I don’t know specifcs at this point, but from all indications it’s one of those Very Bad Situations.
I’ve known Bill for a long time, and anyone that knows about my personal life knows that there are some very valid reasons why our relationship has had its rocky moments. The fact of the matter is, though, that he’s someone I’ve had in my life for over 16 years now, and despite the fact that we are not as close as we once were we’ve been through a lot together. On top of all that, he means the world to my son – and he’s a hell of a step-father to him. Long story short, I’m worried about him and I want him to be well soon.
So if you’ve got a moment today in the midst of the New Year’s Eve festivities, send some good mojo his way. He’s going to need it.
Ok…Seriously….
I have had some serious issues with childfree in the past. Every time I make the mistake of visiting this community I am horrified by the level of hatred I see there. I don’t see it as a place where people who don’t want to have kids band together – It’s a place where people who loathe children vent their spleens. Nowhere else have I ever seen a place where threatening violence against children is not only acceptable, but encouraged. It makes me sick, frankly.
That being said, they still managed to surprise even me.
Threatening to never read a fucking comic because one of the characters might have a child???
Sad. Utterly and completely sad.

Oh, hey! Look! I've got a livejournal.
I suppose I should use it every once in a while, huh?
So the holidays are almost over. Only looking at New Years to get past at this point, and around these folks that pretty much is going to be a non-event. I’m ok with that, really. We’ve had our big blowout of the season, and it was a smashing success. A good time was had by all, and I got to spend my Christmas with some incredible people. I got a feeling word might get out about my hangover breakfast and there could be more folks losing their keys next year, though. Heh.
All in all, it was a very nice Christmas. Other than a minor fire at my Mother’s house (wrapping paper + candles = bad), the party there was pleasant as well. Got some spiffy swag, and had some delicous roast beast and other assorted foodstuffs. The kids seemed to be pretty happy with their gifts overall. I think between the various households they got everything they asked for, and a little that they didn’t. One of the gifts was Guitar Hero II, which has turned out to be an absolute blast. At this point I think I’ve played it more than Alex has. Uncle Dana came through with an Amazon.com gift card, which payed off the rest of my Burning Crusade pre-order, so that’s a bit of cash I don’t have to come up with in a few weeks.
Other than the holidays, things have pretty much been the same around here. Got the insurance situation straightened out (with a little help from a very generous friend), and have plans to prevent the situation in the upcoming year budget-wise. Things are looking a little better in the financial sector for the upcoming future. Not necessarily great, but not quite as bleak as they have been.
Weight wise? Bleargh. I started up with Yourself!Fitness again yesterday, and I’m a bit bummed at the fact that I seem to have lost all the progress I made in the past. 15 minute workouts are making me sore as hell again, and I can’t do nearly as many repetitions of the various exercises as I could. Ah well. Haven’t gained back a trememdous amount of weight, so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to where I was without too much effort.
Yep. Not a very exciting post. My sister was giving me shit for not updating, though, so I figured I should get something out here. Perhaps more tomorrow if I’m feeling more exciting.
Finally!
Twin Peaks Season 2 Coming to DVD
More updates later. Sick now.
Interesting linkies for the morning
Holy Crap! Hogfather movie! (ganked from thryn)
Christmas Eve Party Reminder – RSVP requested
Just a reminder that we’re going to be gathering here, as always, on Christmas Eve this year. If you’re planning to attend, please let me know so I can start putting together a head count.
For you old school locals, Scott Engle and his other half Donna are going to be here for the party!
